Cochineal Red

Cochineal Red is a digital exhibition of textile art designed for the casual museumgoer. The content is largely based off of Cochineal Red: The Art History of a Color by Elena Phipps.

The exhibition tells the story of the textiles in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection that are dyed with cochineal red dye. Throughout the timeline, users can learn about the history of the objects in the exhibition, and see how this red dye spread from the Americas to the whole world.
